Planting Trees

WSWA has planted about 1000 trees in the watershed since 2008. This will remain an important part of our work for years to come, as we prioritize the restoration of tree cover in areas currently being deforested by the ongoing construction of the 522 Bypass.

A mature tree will capture the first three-quarters of an inch of rain in its leaves, branches, and bark. Some of the water captured evaporates back into the atmosphere. The remaining water is slowed in its descent to the ground. As a result, the volume and velocity of runoff is significantly reduced. This in turn reduces the amount of potentially polluted runoff that enters the watershed.

Community volunteers play a significant role in this effort.
