Cacapon Institute was started as Pine Cabin Run Ecological Lab in 1985.

From the Cacapon River…
Cacapon Institute was founded to protect the Cacapon River and “Appalachian watersheds.” Since then, the Institute has grown to reach a broad audience across the Mid-Atlantic.

To the Potomac….
Today, we are pursuing real-world conservation project in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, Western Maryland, and the Shenandoah Valley.

To the Chesapeake Bay…
We are a founding member of the West Virginia Chesapeake Bay Program and an active participant in the U.S. EPA Chesapeake Bay Program serving on the Education and Forestry workgroups.
