Design a Permeable Pavement
What It Is
A high traffic area that is stabilized with pavers or interlocking blocks that allow water to soak through without, while providing a strong surface.
How It Works
Water seeps through the paver material or around the edges into the underlying sand or gravel.
Benefits
- Prevents water pooling
- Increases infiltration and reduces runoff
- Reduces pollutants from entering surface water directly
Where It Works Best
- Areas where there is foot or vehicle traffic such as driveways, patios, or sidewalks
Homeowner Tips
- Don’t use in areas that accumulate sediment to avoid clogging
- Slope away from building foundations
Maintenance
- Sweep or vacuum gravel and organic material off the pavers
- Reset pavers if settling occurs
